According to Vegetarian Star Animal Planet will air Sweet Avenger, a 12 episode series about Danielle Konya, the owner of Vegan Treats, a vegan bakery in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. The series is about Konya and her bakery. In an interview with Hollywood Reporter Marisa Guthrie on 3/29/11, Danielle said, "I want to show people that by eating a vegan confection, you're directly saving the lives of cows, chickens and thereby the environment and habitats of thousands of other exotic species". "There is nothing appetizing about the suffering of 10 billion animals a year, and my treats can satisfy both the palate and the conscience.”
Konya has received requests for vegan desserts from many celebrities, especially musicians, people she thinks are naturally drawn to the idea of veganism.
“I think maybe because veganism is like a magnet for an alternative lifestyle,” Konya said. “I think lots of musicians are eclectic individuals. That’s my take on it. Or maybe, one musician has it and the others go, “We want some!”
Alkaline Trio’s drummer Derek Grant was so stoked he wrote a song about it.
Danielle Konya has been around for a while.back in December 2009 Super Vegan reported Konya was to feature on The 10. In an interview with Satyamag in 2005 she was reported to say that in 5 years she was, "hoping for mass distribution and Vegan Treats VEGAN TREATS desserts in every grocery store, market and subdivision. Someone once told me to dream big and I've been doing it ever since". Looks like it's working Danielle...Go girl!
